'Green Photonics' prize for Sebastian Schmitt

Each year, the 'Green Photonics' prize of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is awarded to young scientists, which in their thesis worked on topics related to light, optics and photonics for environmental / climate protection and sustainability.

On the 4th of July in Jena, this years second prize in the category 'Dissertations' was awarded to Sebastian Schmitt, who performed the scientific work related to his dissertation at the Max-Planck-Institute for the Science of Light. In his PhD work, Schmitt could design, fabricate and analyze novel silicon-based nanostructures that can be applied as photonic building blocks for optoelectronic devices. Since January 1st 2015, Sebastian Schmitt works as research associate in the department of Silke Christiansen at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
