Novel phenomena in macroscopic photonic crystals

I will present some of our recent work on photonic crystals, including: states of light that propagate in only one way, topologically non-trivial dispersion relations in photonic crystals, tailoring far-field emission, and embedded eigen-values in photonic crystals. In order to make these phenomena useful for large macroscopic devices, large-area nano-fabrication techniques have to be successfully implemented; some of our work on such techniques will be presented as well.
