Chalcogenide glass micro-optical devices tailored to distinct morphologies for photonic applications

Chalcogenide glasses are attracting a strong interest as a promising material for micro-optical devices, because of their superior material properties such as high refractive index, wide transparency in the Mid-IR region, high optical nonlinearity, and low-temperature processability. In this talk, a new technique based on shaping of chalcogenide glasses into tapered fibers and microresonators in several morphologies will be introduced, and exploitation of these devices in some photonic applications will be demonstrated.
