Simulation of optical systems

One of our projects studies the combination of several optical simulation methods such as ray tracing, Debye integral for propagation to the focus, and coherent superposition of a spectrum of monochromatic wave fields in order to simulate the propagation of ultrashort optical pulses to the focus of a high numerical aperture optical system taking into account phase, amplitude and polarization of the pulse.

Enveloping function of the square of the electric field of a 4 fs pulse with Gaussian temporal profile, radial polarization and amplitude like a dipole wave in the neighborhood of the focus of a deep parabolic mirror at different times (t=0 fs marks the time when the pulse maximum passes the focus).
