OMT Summer School

OMT Summer School
"Quantum Measurements and Theoretical Cavity Optomechanics"

From 5th July till 7th July 2017, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg in association with the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and the University of Camerino are organising a 3-day summer school on the theory of optomechanics within the OMT Marie-Curie network

Contents of the School

This set of tutorial lectures covers the basics of cavity optomechanics, assuming no prior knowledge in the field. We will cover:

  • The basic Hamiltonian and the optomechanical coupling in various systems
  • Laser cooling and displacement detection
  • Quantum-optical tools like input-output theory
  • Basic physical effects like strong coupling and electromagnetically induced transparency
  • State transfer, entanglement, wavelength conversion, topological transport, and other modern applications

Speakers

Florian Marquardt, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg
Vittorio Peano, University of Malta
David Vitali, University of Camerino
Carlos Navarrete-Benlloch, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light
Guest speakers:
Claudiu Genes, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light
Silvia Viola Kusminskiy, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light

Social Program

A visit to the nearby medieval town of Bamberg (UNESCO world heritage site) will be organized on Wednesday afternoon as part of the program for the participants, including a guided tour. Thursday evening there will be a combined poster session and dinner buffet at the Max Planck Institute. As the school ends on Friday in the late afternoon, we anticipate that many participants will want to stay another night before returning home. We recommend visiting the historic city of Nuremberg (20-30 min by train from Erlangen, about 10 EUR return trip).

Accommodation

In downtown Erlangen: The AB Hotel, within walking distance from the main station:
