ExB Deflector Development

The measurement of the deuteron's EDM requires an accelerator ring with DC E- and B-fields. E- and B-field fields are perpendicular to each other in this configuration. An electrostatic deflector is in development that will be implemented into the ANKE D2 magnet. The average electric field strength of the deflector will be 6 MV/m. Thus, materials and coatings are needed that have a high breakdown strength. Moreover, parts and components that are exposed to a high field have to be carefully designed in order to avoid field peaks. The D2 deflector setup will be used to study the breakdown behavior and evaluate diagnostics that are necessary for a future EDM storage ring.
